"A little cottage is always very snug..."
Micah and I have always talked about building our own home. We'd contract out the big stuff, and then try to do a lot of the finish work ourselves. Now granted, it will probably be years before we can actually do this, because we first have to become debt-free and then save up some money...but it's fun to dream, isn't it?

Now to make this home perfect, it will have a finished walk-out basement room underneath (we can't have "real" basements in the south!) to serve as a school/craft/playroom. We would also one day build a separate studio office building for our businesses, with a small guest suite attached to that. In our dreams, there will be at least a couple acres, a garden, lots of shady trees and a picket fence.
I absolutely prefer small houses! I was excited to find the this architect, because he has an entire collection of small-sized cottages with simple and non-excessive layouts, but with all the character and detail of the vintage homes that I love. Have fun looking through all the styles and pictures!

What an adorable house. It has so much character and I love pictures of all of the rooms. It's layout is great and it's decorated so cute.
Good luck with your dream and you're right we all need our dreams.
Thanks, mama of 2! I agree!
I love that house.
My husband and I live in a small space. That could be because we're urbanites. :) As we're expecting a baby in January, we were getting a great deal of criticism about only living in a one bedroom, but we didn't care. Families are supposed to be close. Having said that, we *just* found our new apartment that, thankfully, has two bedrooms.
It's great to have your sweet-natured, thought-provoking blog back, Erin.
Thanks Marianne!
Congrats on the baby! I agree with you...if we ever have children, I wouldn't have a problem having only one bedroom for a little while...in fact I would probably have it that way on purpose for at least the first few months anyway! We currently have two bedrooms, but one of them is a study/office. Now THAT I'm not sure we could do without very easily:o)
This IS an adorable house. I know you and Micah would make any house you end up with into a HOME.
It's lovely, and my husband and I also like small homes- we've even fantasized about living in an RV. Have you seen the "Small is the new big" photoset on Flickr? You might like it if you haven't seen it before.
I love "Sense and Sensibility," and yes, a cottage is very snug.
Congratulations on your pregnancy. I hope everything goes well. I was super tired while pregnant with my third child, and my midwife discovered I was anemic. It helped me to have two tablespoons of blackstrap molasses (not the regular kind) and three ounces of liver a day until I got better. Apparently, the iron in those foods is more bioavailable than iron supplements.
Just a thought. I enjoy your blog and website. Please keep us posted!
